Valentine's Day is all about love. Using large word props as foreground and background items is a favorite way of photographers to convey an emotion. Plus its another prop for the collection of "cute kid" photo gear.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: About 1 Hour

Here's How:

  1. Use the craft knife to cut the dowels to the desired length (about 7").
  2. Use the craft knife to cut a small hole bottom center of each letter. This hole should be slightly smaller than the wooden dowels.
  3. Put a small amount of hot glue on a dowel, wait 10 seconds, and then insert the dowel into the letter. Place more hot glue around the dowel to hold it tightly. Repeat for each letter. Wait for the glue to dry.
  4. Put a small amount of hot glue on a dowel, wait 10 seconds, and then insert the dowel into the foam base. Place more hot glue around the dowel to hold it tightly. Repeat for each letter. Wait for the glue to dry.
  5. Spray paint the letters and base using several light coats to prevent running.

Tips:

  1. An alternative to spelling the word "LOVE" normally is to use wooden or foam blocks of varying sizes and attach one letter directly to each block. Then arrange the blocks so that the word "LOVE" is spelled out.

What You Need:

  • 10" Heavy Duty Paper Mache' Letters to Spell "LOVE"
  • Red Spray Paint
  • 3/16" Diameter Wooden Dowels (4)
  • Hot Glue and Hot Glue Gun
  • Craft Knife
  • 2" Thick Foam Base (at least 2 feet long)
