Model releases are small contracts that photographers use to obtain a subject's permission to publish photographs of that subject. Laws regarding model releases vary from state to state and country to country.

Answer: A model release should specify the subject, the date, the nature of the photographs, and the permissions given. Below is a sample of generic model release text. Be sure to check with a local lawyer regarding local laws before adopting a model release.

I, ____________________, agree to allow photographs of me taken by ______________ to be published for any purpose and in any format.
This release covers photographs made on ___________________ while ________________________.

If subject is a minor include a place for the legal guardian to sign.
